I don’t write reviews of many business books, because the reviews would all say the same thing: the book was dull, the author states the obvious, the book provided no pragmatic advice, and all of the key points could have been made in 10 pages, not 200.
That’s why it is such a delight to read a truly great business book: Sharon Richmond’s freshman work, without doubt the best book I have ever read on how personality influences leadership and what specifically you should do to get the best possible results from your own leadership as well as the leadership of others.
Full disclosure — I have worked with Sharon Richmond personally. However, I can honestly say without bias that this is simply the best work I’ve seen for leaders who don’t just want to understand a theory or read endless case studies from a management consultant or washed up former executive. Her advice is specific, pragmatic, and based on sound research. If you choose just one book to guide your growth as a leader, make it this one.
