I’m a junky for books on personal development, business and leadership. Neil Ducoff has created one of the books you must have in your success library!

Written in a clear, incredibly well-organized and engaging style (with a sense of humor when appropriate!), this is not an academic exploration of leadership; this is step-by-step examination of leadership with the hightest standards and a wonderfully focused system for implementation.

Neil Ducoff defines leadership, explains his “no-compromise” approach and shows you how to install his philosophy in your business culture.

If you’re leadership book shelf is full, you’d better add another shelf. This book deserves it!

“No-Compromise Leadership” was a brilliant book. A very easy read that could be completed in a single weekend. Ducoff’s “Neilisms” and concepts are insightful and should be implemented by leaders in any and every field, from coaches to CEOs. Author, Neil Ducoff gives a clear definition as to what “no-compromise leadership” is and takes the reader through the journey to success. Part I deals with the conceptual thinking behind no-compromise leadership. He opens with the negatives and cost of compromising and instructs the reader on how to abandon “leadership blockages” through stories, tips and ten non-negotiable requirements. Ducoff teaches new beliefs and new ways of thinking through a list of thirteen no-compromise beliefs such as, “freedom is the essence of motivation” and “people seek to be led, not managed”. Part II presents a practical application to no-compromise leadership: productivity, profitability, staff retention, and customer loyalty, the Four Business Outcomes.

With Parts I and II under the reader’s belt, Ducoff lets you know that although you may have the tools for no-compromise leadership you are not yet ready to implement it until you complete the final stage. Part III takes the reader through the steps necessary to put no-compromise leadership to work in your company. He talks about an 18-month sequence for leading a company “culture” shift to no-compromise. By the end of Part III, the reader is able to understand why this idea is timeless, undying, and never-ending. No-compromise is an approach to leadership that requires a life-long commitment to personal development and adhering to the highest leadership standards.”

“Looking for a No Compromise Leader” should be the headline in the classified ads of every company looking for a manager, director, VP or CEO. It should be the starting criteria for deciding what type of executives you want in your company. After all, you can teach many things like strategy, sales channels, positioning, LEAN manufacturing or a specific type of operations. What is more difficult to teach is what Neil Ducoff tells us is the “No Compromise” part of the leader. Neil tells us it is not a skill but a personal decision leaders must make and support. They must implement and police within themselves and throughout their business.

No-Compromise Leadership: A Higher Standard of Leadership, thinking and Behavior by Neil Ducoff should be required reading for every current or incoming executive in your company. It will set the highest standard of accountability and send a solid message to your team that in your organization, “No Compromise” is the mission statement.

The Premise of No-Compromise Leadership is that a leader has to see the world in black and white, and always pick white. Neil Ducoff often refers to a No-Compromise Leadership as a company’s operating system and a leaders DNA. He explains that this ethical behavior has to be rooted first in the company’s leader and then adopted by the rest of the employees to make it a company wide culture. It is this culture that will pay off in business growth and prosperity.

The book is divided into 3 different parts. Part I “Discovering the No Compromise Leader. Part II No Compromise Leader and The Four Business Outcomes and Part III Putting No compromise Leadership to Work in Your Company.

In Part I, Mr. Ducoff explains step by step what “No Compromise” really means and how to begin the journey. More importantly, he tells us what compromise is, where to find it and what it will do to a business. A leader, Ducoff, says, is not only judged by what he does, but also for what he doesn’t do. Part II shows you what to expect when you become a No Compromise Leader. The Author calls this the four business outcomes and they include Productivity, Profitability, Staff Reaction and Customer Loyalty. In the final chapters of Part III we learn what to do as leaders once we adopt the No Compromise philosophy and how to change the company’s culture to adopt this new philosophy.

Although the concept of the book is ageless, the timing is impeccable. I only hope politicians, Fortune CEO’s and Wall Street executives read the book and apply themselves to the standards of “No-Compromise”. This will ensure every important decision will be made thinking of ethics and accountability. Although the message is aimed primarily at business owners and executives I think it can very easily be applied to any type of organization and especially in politics.
