This is a must read for any firefighter or business owner. Young firefighters need to learn the art of leadership early and this book will put you on the right path. Its an easy read and most can finish it in a few days…..then you can read it again and again.

Very insightful and informative. Kept my attention, easy to read. I enjoyed his real life experiences, they helped to connect with what he was trying to say. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for some help in leadership, in and out of the fire service.

This had several suggestions for any leader. As a firefighter, I really enjoy the perspective that Chief Salka is giving as I work towards a company officer position. The only part I don’t like is that there are so many links to the business world, most do not apply for me but it seems like good advice for business people. However, from the fire service perspective, there are several lessons to be learned from this book. I plan to read this several more times throughout my career.

Chief Salka shares “real world” proven leadership skills that can be adapted to many organizations. First In, Last Out is an excellent book and a must read for Chief Officers, Company Officers, and Firefighters.
